Item Prices
Mundane Gear
All mundane gear—standard weapons, armor, tools, and basic adventuring supplies—can be requisitioned from the Mandate Desk at no cost between missions. Anything magical, powerful, or extraplanar (including permanent magic items, major spellcasting services, planar boons, and special enchantments) requires Planar Commendations. All mundane gear published by WOTC in a 2025 rule book is available and functions as described in the book.
Magic Items
For our West Marches campaign, Magic Items are purchased with Planar Commendations. Planar commendations are a server-wide currency that is rewarded at the end of each Fracture Resolution (mission). Every character on the server has the same number of Planar Commendations at all times. This ensures that anyone can jump in and have the same options as anybody else. Players can return magic items previously purchased for a full-refund, this ensures that existing characters can optimize as much as new characters.
Tier-Gated Access
Characters may save Commendations indefinitely, but may only purchase items from the rarity tier their current character level grants access to. Rarity access is tied strictly to character level, not to purchases, progression choices, or anything else.
| Character Level | Tier Access | Item Rarity Unlocked |
|---|---|---|
| 1–4 | Tier I | Uncommon |
| 5–10 | Tier II | Uncommon + Rare |
| 11–16 | Tier III | Uncommon + Rare + Very Rare |
| 17–20 | Tier IV | All rarities (Legendary and artifact) |
This prevents early power spikes, keeps progression meaningful, and aligns item availability with character capability.
| Item Rarirty | Commendations Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Uncommon | 3 | First major upgrade; reachable early Tier I. |
| Rare | 15 | Ideal for Tier II progression; meaningful investment. |
| Very Rare | 50 | High-tier power; accessible mid Tier III. |
| Legendary | 75 | Requires tier IV |
Consumables
Because characters do not carry gold and missions require self-contained readiness, each character may purchase and bring consumables into an incursion using their Commendations.
- Consumables use the same Commendation cost as magic items of their rarity.
- Before each mission, a character may carry consumables totaling up to one-third of their total Commendations earned (rounded down).
- This represents Sigil issuing limited expendable resources based on a character’s proven service.
- Any remaining consumables remaining at the end of a Planar Incursion are immediately repossessed by Sigil
This ensures every character enters incursions equipped but eliminates any stockpiling.
Gold:
When a campaign calls for item prices in gold, we defer to Kasson, his work is solid and he's responsive (via his Patreon) to issues and omissions.
